Alabama hires Brian Daboll from Patriots as OC

Daboll has a pre-existing relationship with Alabama head coach Nick Saban dating back to their days together at Michigan State, per news services.

That said, Alabama will be Daboll's first official college coaching position having worked in the National Football League since 2000, when he left Saban to become a defensive assistant and then as a receivers coach with the Patriots under Belichick from 2000-06.

Daboll will replace Steve Sarkisian, who bolted from Alabama to become the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator February 7, and he will be the Crimson Tide's fifth offensive coordinator since 2011. Belichick has drafted and acquired multiple players from teams Saban has coached in the college ranks, and Patriots who have worked under both have noted similarities in how they run their respective programs.
