Karnataka beefs up security around Sasikala jail

The AIADMK chief has not been given any VIP treatment in the jail and is sharing her cell number 2, which is of 8*10 size, with two other women inmates, along with her relative Elavarasi, who too was convicted in the disproportionate assets case.

Here are interesting facts about how Sasikala spent her first night in prison and what her days ahead will be like- a stark contrast from her aspirations of usurping the TN CM throne by virtue of having been Amma's soul-sister.

Sasikala has been reportedly given "Khaidi number 9234", while Elavarasi and V N Sudhakaran were given 9235 and 9236 respectively. She was denied most of the facilities she had requested for.

Denied the privilege of a TV, mineral water, 24x7 hot water, a cot, a helper, a private single room and home cooked food that she sought from the Special Court judge, Sasikala refused to eat the two chapattis, one ragi ball, 200 gm of rice and 150 gm of sambar given by the prison for dinner on Wednesday night. However, all these requestes have been rejected.

On Wednesday, following instructions of the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case, Sasikala surrendered to the Bengaluru jail authorities.

V K Sasikala, Ilavarasi and Sudhakaran were provided with uniforms soon after their entry into Parappana Agrahara jail. However, a decision on providing her a cot to sleep on will be taken by doctors today.

Sasikala will be in jail for three years and 11 months out of the four-year sentence awarded by the trial court.

"She will be treated like any other woman convict and will be provided jail food". She will make candles or agarbathis during her stay and will be paid Rs 50 a day.

In commotion after Sasikala's arrival, four cars in her cavalcade were damaged in vandalism, police said but added it was not known who did it. But she refused to be driven around like a common criminal, declaring herself "no petty thief", and chose to walk the distance instead.
