NH Democrat Shaheen meets with Trump's Supreme Court nominee Gorsuch

They include questions about the use of executive power, claims of voter fraud and similar issues with a direct parallel or link to positions or statements by President Donald Trump.

He noted Gorsuch reiterated that recent criticisms of federal judges was "disheartening" and "demoralizing". "This blanket excuse frustrates any examination of what kind of judge the nominee will be".

Shaheen said she voiced her support for women's reproductive rights and the important precedent of the Roe v. Wade decision at their meeting.

"He believes firmly that the role of the judge in our democracy is to apply the laws made by the political branches - that is, to adhere to our Constitution and the statutes our elected representatives have enacted, and not to confuse those things with a judge's own policy preferences", the law clerks wrote. Garland, also a federal appeals judge, was nominated by President Barack Obama but Republicans refused to consider him, saying that whomever won the 2016 presidential election should get to select the nominee. He said Gorsuch was thoughtful and had an impressive resume but they disagreed on some high court decisions.
