The protest comes after Trump vowed to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.

"This is The View with no immigrants", the talk show's official Twitter account posted on Thursday along with a video of a deserted audience and studio.

"From doctors to dishwashers, immigrants are integral to daily life in the US", tweeted Janet Murguia, head of National Council of La Raza, as she praised Hispanic American Chef Jose Andrés' decision to close his restaurant in Washington, D.C. for the day. The boycott, which also asks immigrants to not spend money, is meant to demonstrate the impact that immigrants have on the American economy-as both workers and consumers. They're part of who we are.

The Wall Street Journal reported that some intelligence officials did not have confidence in Trump. The president has railed against government leaks in the past few days.

Spread on social media and messaging apps, the informal though growing campaign aims to make Thursday a "day without immigrants".

Some of the employees are from Mexico, some were born in the US and owner Anthony Park is the son of immigrants himself. If students do not come to school, their absence will be unexcused unless a parent calls in to excuse them.

Jose Lopez, the owner of La Michoacana Del Sur restaurant in Albuquerque's South Valley neighborhood, says it was important to demonstrate how vital immigrants were to the country.

One protester said that without immigrants, the USA economy would suffer.

"This is to show our country, we are a part of this country", said Jesus Guevara, Mi Tradicion Bakery Owner. "As an immigrant myself, I could not stand on the sidelines and watch the rest of my staff not be here", he told NBC Washington. "My staff was like, 'We feel this is something we have to do, '" she said. Some business owners said they needed to stay in business and would try to stay open even if employees did not show up. Beyond the restaurants who have elected to close, it is possible other restaurants' hours could be impacted if enough workers stay home unexpectedly.
