Cutting Cutler: Bears dump QB in latest offseason overhaul

With several reports indicating the Chicago Bears are going to move on from starter Jay Cutler this offseason, the team has been active in looking for a replacement in the quarterback market. Seattle knows that all too well after Matt Flynn didn't transform into another Matt Hasselbeck after arriving in 2012 from Green Bay. His release trims $14 million off the Bears' books and carries $2 million in dead cap. The team will still have paid Glennon at least $19 million for one season.

WR Pierre Garcon (Washington) to San Francisco.

31-year-old safety Quintin Demps agreed to a three-year, $13.5 million deal with the Bears, according to Houston Chronicle reporter Aaron Wilson.

-Glennon's last start came on November 2, 2014 when he threw 2 TD's, 2 INT's in a loss to the Brian Hoyer-led Browns. With only a few openings at quarterback around the league, it was only a matter of time until the Jets were linked to Cutler. He didn't see snaps as a backup in 2015, and he only played in two games last season. Bates was Cutler's position coach with the Bears for one season (2012) in Chicago and the two also spent two years together in Denver Cutler from 2006-08.

Pace said the first thing Glennon did - after asking to dive into the playbook and get tape downloaded to his iPad - was ask for photos of "everybody in the building" whom Glennon would interact with and the cellphone numbers of "every single player on offense and certain guys on defense".

But these cup games bring opportunities for bigger clubs because they would probably be prioritised less by the manager than a Champions League knockout game.

Tight end Dion Sims saw a kindred spirit in a fellow former backup - "We're both hungry", he said - while receiver Markus Wheaton was reminded of the leadership skills Glennon showed when they were both in the 2013 Senior Bowl. And if Wright works out the Bears can attempt to sign him to a longer commitment.

Obviously, his stat line was impressive enough to persuade the Bears' management to lure Glennon to Chicago. Hoyer will have a chance to be the Niners' starter.

Cutler set Chicago Bears records for Passing Yards, Passing Completions, and Passing Touchdowns.

"I've been in three systems in four years, and there [are] pieces from all of them", Glennon said.

Cutler played in just five games last season because of thumb and shoulder injuries. None was selected in Chicago's previous two drafts.

And in the third minute, centre Jonathan Joseph cut through the visitors like a hot knife through butter which led to the first try .

The decision to let Alshon Jeffery walk away in free agency is even more curious given the quarterback situation.

The Bears now hold the third overall selection in this year's draft after going 3-13 this past season, and could potentially look to select one of the top three quarterbacks in this year's draft class.

Although they missed out on all of their big name targets outside of Glennon, they've been active in free agency.
