Hasbro ditches iconic boot and wheelbarrow 'tokens' and unveils new Monopoly game


The newest additions to the roster of Monopoly tokens.

"While I'm sad to see the iconic thimble, boot, and wheelbarrow tokens go, it will be fun to have some new, fan-sourced tokens in the mix", he said.

The Thimble, Boot and Wheelbarrow pieces have been axed in favour of the Penguin, Rubber Duck and T-Rex pieces that will be introduced to all future Monopoly games alongside the Scottie Dog, Top Hat, Car, Battleship, Cat pieces.

The decision came after the company conducted a survey of Monopoly fans in more than 100 countries in January, asking which tokens they'd like to see in the next generation of the board game.

The new edition of the widely popular board game will be released this fall.

More than four million votes were cast, Hasbro says, and fans were given 64 options including the existing tokens.

The original 10 tokens were an iron, purse, lantern, racecar, thimble, shoe, top hat, battleship, cannon and a rocking horse.
