Miami Open: Rafael Nadal beats Jack Sock in quarters, Kei Nishikori out

Rafael Nadal came back from an terrible first set to defeat Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber 0-6, 6-2, 6-3 and advance to the fourth round of the Miami Open tennis tournament on Sunday. The Spaniard, playing his 1 000th ATP match, suffered just the 14th 0-6 set of his career, claiming just 33 percent of first serve points won and making a string of unforced errors.

The American 13th seed is having a breakout year on the ATP Tour, though, and showcased his own stunning forehand, with some monster hitting giving him a 2-0 lead in the second set.

Nadal breezed through the first set, never facing a break point and dropping only six points on serve. It was two positive things in two straight games that probably created a lot of damage on him.

World No. 4 Nishikori earlier said he had not felt in top shape for the contest. "So I need to be focus with my serve, but at the same time I need to be aggressive". I'm happy about my performance. "A good backhand too now; he plays quick with his backhand", Nadal said of Sock. Nadal took their first four meetings but Fognini took three out of four after that, including a win in the Rio semifinals at 2015 that snapped a run of 52 consecutive victories in clay-court semifinals for Nadal.
