This performance gave Stroman just enough of a push to win the WBC MVP.

Entering the World Baseball Classic, the Dominican Republic were the heavy favorites to win the tournament.

The U.S. tacked on another run on Giancarlo Stanton's RBI single off Hiram Burgos past diving shortstop Francisco Lindor. Crawford's fielding is what sets him apart however.

Mr Tanner said: "Leaving Europe could push Oxford's vehicle industry, university research and hospital staffing off a cliff". To move ahead though, the European Union leaders recognized that full unity on all things will be unworkable.

Baez, fresh off the Cubs' first World Series title in 108 years, made spectacular plays in the field and on the basepaths during WBC 2017. In the case of Crawford and Hosmer, they're nearly interchangeable but I gave Crawford the nod due to his defensive play.

Kinsler's two-run homer off Seth Lugo broke a scoreless tie in the third inning, and Christian Yelich and Andrew McCutchen had run-scoring singles in the fifth.

Baseball fans in Puerto Rico had been head-over-heels excited about their team's deep run in the WBC. He played for Team Puerto Rico that ended up taking second place after losing to Team USA 8-0. Early on in this WBC, it looked like the Americans were en route to another disappointing showing - lest we forget that Colombia's Jose Quintana carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the United States in their first game. There's nothing wrong with an American kid watching a Puerto Rican player and wanting to be like them, or a Puerto Rican kid watching an American player and wanting to play that way.

The US is considered baseball's birthplace and the nation has a world-leading 626 players in Major League Baseball - but until Wednesday its team had never played in a Classic final. If there was going to be a rally for Puerto Rico, this was the time.

Leyland is known to get emotional after big victories, as we can recall from his time with the Tigers, and this one was no different. "The thing I marveled at was how quickly they came together, and Jimmy (Leyland) deserves a lot of that credit". That's fine. If that's the way the players want to behave, so be it. Kinsler's comments sure made it sound like he was criticizing those Latin American countries for not playing the game the right way, so to speak, and more than a few fans were upset about that.
