Accused gunman in Fresno shooting spree charged in motel murder


Police contend Muhammad, 39, killed Zackary David Randalls, 34, of Clovis, Mark James Gassett, 37, of Fresno, and David Martin Jackson, 58, of Fresno in a shooting rampage Tuesday morning near downtown Fresno. FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - The suspect in this week's Fresno, California, mass shooting is scheduled to appear in court Friday to face arraignment for a first-degree murder charge in a killing five days earlier. "I would hope that whatever Kori tells [police, ] they take him seriously and they start following up", he said.

Gassett leaves behind two children.

Muhammad is accused of killing Williams on the night of April 13 and attempting to shoot a second security guard in the parking lot of a Motel 6 on Blackstone Avenue.

Muhammad's court-appointed attorney, Eric Christensen, declined a request by The Associated Press to comment.

Muhammad yelled again. The judge canceled the proceedings, setting bail at $2.6 million and ordering a mental evaluation for Muhammad.

The Fresno Police Department, California has apprehended a male black separatist, Kori Ali Muhammad who randomly killed three white people chanting "God is Great" in Arabic.

He shot three other white men at random Tuesday, police said, including a Pacific Gas & Electric worker sitting in a truck and two men who had come out of a Catholic Charities building.

In the next three minutes, police say Muhammad killed two more people and shot at several others, firing 17 rounds.

Authorities have said Williams' killing was the first of four by Muhammad.

Muhammad had run afoul of Fresno police before.

Before leaving, Muhammad threatened that "if they called the police, he would burn down their apartment", according to the sheriff's detective's written account.

He was deemed competent in August 2006 and pleaded guilty to the charges of cocaine possession with intent to distribute and a weapons charge. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2005 for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm for drug trafficking and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, after a Fresno police officer searched his auto and found two large bags of cocaine, a loaded handgun and two rifles, court records show.

Texas unemployment rate in March up slightly to 5 percent
