Pentagon officials say the USA commander in Afghanistan who ordered use of the "mother of all bombs" didn't need President Donald Trump's approval. It was first tested in 2003, but the Nangarhar strike represented the first time the huge weapon has been used in combat. But that changed on Thursday, when the GBU-43 aka the "mother of all bombs" was dropped on a complex of underground tunnels and caves used by ISIS fighters in eastern Afghanistan, close to the country's border with Pakistan.

U.S. drops Mother of all bombs on IS militants in Afghanistan.

The United States dropped the largest non-nuclear device, called "mother of all bombs" in an area in Afghanistan to target militants, but it also left an impact on the other side of border, causing damage to the buildings in Kurram Agency. "We are so proud of our military, it was another successful event", Trump told reporters at the White House.

Wenger leaves fans guessing on exit
Arsenal remain in sixth position, seven points off a fourth spot and level on points with seventh placed Everton. Asked to assess his team's top-four chances, Wenger said: "As very hard , like you, certainly".

"As a result of the bombing, key Daesh (IS) hideouts and a deep tunnel complex were destroyed and 36 IS fighters were killed", the defence ministry said in a statement. "A year ago a drone strike targeted a house next to mine, but this time it felt like the heavens were falling", he explained.

More than 1,900 IS militants, several Afghan security forces and two USA soldiers have been killed in Achin and neighboring districts since 2015, according to Afghan military officials.

The MOAB is the largest nonnuclear bomb in the U.S. s arsenal but Russia's has even a bigger one.

This is a big-league weapon for a small-league enemy.

The target of the massive bomb was an Islamic State command centre hidden in a mountainous area that was hard to destroy with conventional bombs. That apparently reflects President Donald Trump's vow for a more aggressive campaign against the group. It was all but defeated.

Oil slides as gasoline inventories build
Prices, which posted a gain of roughly 1.8% last week, settled at their worst level since April 7, FactSet data show. US crude inventories, however, fell by 1.0 million barrels last week to 532.3 million barrels, said the EIA.

"This is not the war on terror, but the inhuman and most brutal misuse of our country as testing ground for new and unsafe weapons", he said on social media network Twitter. The strategic value is even less.

The MOAB is believed to be the deadliest non-nuclear weapon designed.

Some have suggested the decision to use the powerful munition may have been "disproportionate" and has done little to alter circumstances.

"If big bombs were the solution we would be the most secure place on earth today".

Afghanistan has suffered too much, too long to be used for vengeance in this way.

Even in normal times, airlines closely - even daily - scrutinize numbers such as advance sales and occupancy levels on planes. Mr Munoz declined to address that or other possible changes until the airline finishes a review by April 30.
