Today, Kia unveiled their all-new, fourth-generation 2018 Kia Rio Sedan and 5-door at the New York Auto Show, with sportier design, more interior space and comfort, and overall a more refined ride.
"Value has always been a core tenet for the Kia brand and the all-new Rio sedan and 5-door continue to underscore our commitment to those buyers looking for an entry-level vehicle but desire more than what the subcompact segment now offers", said Orth Hedrick, Kia vice president of product planning, in a statement. The sedan itself, the main novelty here, is longer by 0.6 inches (now at 172.6 inches) and the wheelbase has also been stretched by 0.4 to 101.6 inches to enable a more spacious cabin, especially in the back. The new Rio will be available in the U.S. in three trims (LX, S, EX), all offered with the same engine - four-cylinder, 1.6-liter GDI.
Passengers up front get more head room, leg room and shoulder room while those in the second row will benefit from greater leg- and shoulder room. With the seats folded down, the hatchback only offers 32.8 cubic feet, which is much less than the previous generation's 47.1 cubic feet. The dash is reshaped and the headliner finds new materials for 2018.
Open/closed list for the Easter weekend
The fitness centre will be open Friday and Easter Monday 5:30 a.m.to 9 p.m., Saturday from 7:30 a.m.to 8 p.m. and closed Sunday. While Showplace Entertainment Center will be closed for the day, Rab's Country Lanes will open at 6 p.m. and close at midnight.
The front seats are more comfortable than in the previous model thanks to added cushioning.
Rio also features a larger, all-new platform with a completely new suspension. The only other chassis revision of note is a modification of the spring and damper setup created to "make the vehicle more compliant and comfortable".
In the U.S. where the Rio sedan will be sold, it is offered with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder GDI engine delivering 97kW/161Nm matched with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Top EX models carry over their 10.3-inch rear discs.
Chinese leader urges Donald Trump to peacefully resolve North Korea tensions
During a meeting last week at the White House, Trump and Xi discussed trade relations between China and the U.S. On April 25, North Korea will mark the 85th anniversary of its Korean People's Army.
Power remains the same for both: The Rio has a thrifty 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that packs 130 horsepower and 119 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. The well-engineered powerplant also utilizes an aluminum valve cover and block for reduced weight, while incorporating cast iron linings for increased durability. Kia is targeting a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). As standard, the vehicle comes with 11-inch disc brakes up front and drum brakes at the rear, with the EX gaining 10.3-inch rear disc brakes.
