Ann Coulter is not letting Berkeley off easy for calling off speech

Coulter's threat to speak on April 27 "regardless" of Berkeley's wishes forced the school to act fast and reschedule the appearance for May 2, said Dan Mogulof, assistant vice chancellor for public affairs.

Coulter claimed she's rejecting the rescheduling because college administrators had imposed "burdensome" and "harassing" conditions on her right to free speech.

'We have been unable to find a safe and suitable venue, ' officials wrote in a letter to the campus Republicans on Wednesday.

The violence that erupted after Yiannopoulos was invited on campus prompted campus officials to cancel his speech last-minute as protesters smashed windows, set fires and clashed with police. And after the university canceled Yiannopoulos' talk, President Donald Trump criticized the school and threatened in a tweet to pull federal funds from Berkeley.

"It is ironic that UC Berkeley, known to many as the birthplace of the free speech movement, is now leading the vanguard to silence conservative speech on campus", the letter read.

"You can not impose arbitrary and harassing restrictions on the exercise of a constitutional right", Coulter told "Hannity" on Thursday night. She said that she agreed with the conditions but that apparently wasn't good enough.

"They just up and announced that I was prohibited from speaking anyway", Coulter said, noting that her speech topic was to be immigration, the subject of one of her books.

Coulter subsequently told The Hollywood Reporter: "They can't stop me".

A conservative national group that was helping organize the event, Young America's Foundation, said Coulter also made demands of her own, including that any students engaging in violence be expelled.

University of California, Berkeley has proposed an alternate May 2 date for conservative author Ann Coulter to speak on the liberal campus. This has damaged my reputation for them to be acting like I'm David Duke out there.

Second serve had a little bit more speed on it, less double faults, a few more aces. Djokovic broke for 4-2 in taking the first set.

The school is trying to negotiate a new date, venue and ground rules with the group that invited her, but so far has failed.

Berkeley is not the only American university to face protests against conservative speakers. Far Right brawls have also broke near campus this year.

Coulter told THR that before they canceled her, Berkeley administrators insisted that she agree to a list of demands prior to her engagement, and that she accepted their terms.

"This is a grave mistake", Reich said in a Facebook post.

"Unfortunately, UCPD determined that, given now active security threats, it is not possible to assure that the event could be held successfully - or that the safety of Ms. Coulter, the event sponsors, audience, and bystanders could be adequately protected - at any of the campus venues available on April 27", the letter said.
