The weather service warned the second line of storms could potentially generate large hail and damaging winds. Rankin County Coroner David Ruth says 52-year-old Jacqueline Williams ran off a road in Florence into a rain-swollen creek early Monday and dialed 911 from the sinking vehicle. They suggest having a weather radio or some sort of device to wake up residents if the situation arises.

Storms are expected to develop along and south of a warm front across southeast Georgia and southern SC. Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas have a slight risk of severe storms, meaning that brief
tornadoes and damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour are possible.

The threat of large hail and damaging winds remains for a large portion of the Florida Panhandle, Big Bend, Alabama and Georgia throughout the rest of the day. This is a hard and challenging forecast this afternoon with many variables including boundaries left behind by this morning's storms.

The weather service said the tornado threat could tick upward starting later this morning before this batch of storms moves into Georgia. More storms are expected to develop after sunrise.

Most of the strong storms will be rapidly exiting the area by late morning or lunchtime, and the rest of the day will be mild and clearing but noticeably breezy.

A flash flood watch is in effect from 8 a.m. until late Wednesday night. The highest risk is level five.

Isolated tornadoes also are possible in the strongest storms.
