Steve Stephens' death marked a violent end to a almost 48-hour nationwide manhunt.
Just before Facebook's conference kicked off, Pennsylvania State Police reported Tuesday it found Stephens in Erie County, Pa., on Tuesday morning. As the vehicle was spinning from the impact, Stephens pulled out a pistol and shot himself in the head.

Before the auto chase, however, Stephens stopped at a McDonald's drive-thru and ordered 20 Chicken McNuggets and large fries for $5.35, the restaurant's manager, Henry Sayers, told The New York Times. He said authorities had received almost 400 tips to aid in the search for Stephens.
The break in the case came when police received a tip that Stephens's auto was in the McDonald's vehicle park in Erie, in the north-western corner of the state, about 100 miles east of Cleveland, authorities said.
Stephens replied that he could not wait and sped away from the scene.
"There's some safeguards that are apparently going to have to be installed in our social media that catches things like that, so you can't maybe post a live homicide, as it were".

Before murdering Godwin, Stephens had written on his Facebook page that he wanted to kill someone out of rage toward his ex-girlfriend.
The company has since announced it is launching a review for reporting harmful content. He says the video never should have been shared around the world.
