Brian Murphy, Hernandez's former agent Tweeted he didn't believe his former client killed himself. The former tight end was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later.

Before killing himself, Hernandez had "attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items".

His former Patriots teammates visited the White House and met with President Donald Trump on Wednesday in honor of their Super Bowl win.

While Hernandez was not on suicide watch at the time of his death, he was reportedly placed on suicide watch in 2015, after he had been sentenced to life in prison for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. He committed suicide in his prison cell before his appeal, officials said, and so his conviction was abated.

I thought about those two men, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, and the family members who deserve justice and who sat through an excruciating ordeal for weeks, listening to detailed testimony about the bloody and senseless deaths of their loved ones.

As noted by Yahoo Sports, Hernandez seemed to be in good spirits during the final days of his double murder trial, which ended Friday.

"I am unable to attend today's ceremony, as I am attending to some personal family matters", Brady said in a statement earlier Wednesday. Former Patriots football player Aaron Hernandez, a convicted murderer, has died at the age of 27 after committing suicide in prison. Hernandez, 27, was a rising star in the National Football League when he was arrested in June 2013 and accused of murdering an acquaintance near his MA home. He was cut from the team shortly after he was arrested in Lloyd's killing in June 2013.

Last week, Hernandez was acquitted in the 2012 drive-by shootings of two men in Boston.
