The Supreme Court (SC) on 19 April 2017 restored criminal conspiracy trial against senior BJP leaders L K Advani, M M Joshi, Uma Bharti and other senior BJP leaders in the Babri Masjid demolition case.

The supreme court Judges ordered to conduct hearing on daily basis until a verdict is delivered within two years.

The apex court has also said that no adjournment would be given under normal circumstances and no judge hearing this case would be transferred.

The three are accused of inciting Hindu zealots to pull down the 16 century Babri mosque in 1992, igniting one of India's most explosive religious disputes in which thousands died.

NEW DELHI (AP) — India's top court on Wednesday ordered four senior leaders of the ruling Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party to stand trial over a 1992 attack on an ancient mosque that sparked Hindu-Muslim violence that killed thousands. In 1990, Mr Advani and other BJP leaders met and decided that the mosque would be demolished, according to the CBI.

Many Hindus believe that the mosque was built over the birthplace of Lord Ram and so they wanted a temple to be built there. It had subsequently invoked charges under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, which was quashed by the special court whose decision was upheld by the high court on Wednesday.

Lashing out at the CBI, he said, "Ultimately the CBI, which is controlled by the Centre, today made the court declare Hindus conspirators", Togadia noted.
