Mrs Ajao said she was "deeply shocked, saddened and numbed" by her son's actions and said she had "shed many tears" for his victims.

Last Wednesday, Khalid Masood, 52, drove at speeds of up to 76mph as he ploughed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four people and injuring over 50, all in 82 seconds.

Egypt: 21 killed in explosion at Coptic Christian church
Copts face persecution and discrimination that has spiked since the toppling of Hosni Mubarak's regime in 2011. The group has waged a campaign against Egypt's Christian minority, the largest in the Middle East.

The inquest for the victims is expected to be adjourned at Westminster's Coroner's Court as police continue to investigate the attack.

The Islamic State said Masood was a "soldier" of the group.

The Metropolitan police said on Monday that Masood had a clear interest in (Takfiri) terrorism and his methods echoed the rhetoric of Daesh.

Coroner Dr Fiona Wilcox leading today's proceedings set a review date of 25th April and a provisional hearing date of Friday 19th May to take place at the Royal Courts of Justice.

He offered tributes to the bravery of Pc Palmer, who died after trying to stop Masood from entering Parliament during last Wednesday's attack.

Also, the theory that Masood was radicalized during a spell in prison is doubted by detectives. "Most importantly, so do the victims and families", he said.

Meanwhile, pressure mounts on WhatsApp to allow access for intelligence services and police to Masood's communications over reports he was using the encrypted-messaging service just before the attack.
