Bill Daley, a former White House chief of staff to President Barack Obama, who got pushed out in a shakeup himself after roughly a year into the job, said it appears that inside the Trump White House there's a struggle for "the soul and brain of the president".

McMaster dismissed the notion that it is "inappropriate" to have a political adviser in a role on the NSC, saying that it's OK for Trump "to have in that role whoever the president wants in that role".

Mr Bannon, Mr Trump's chief strategist, and Mr Kushner, an influential adviser and Mr Trump's son-in-law, met on Friday at the request of White House chief of staff Reince Priebus who told them that if they have any policy differences, they should air them internally, the official said. Multiple media reports over the past two days have suggested that Trump is considering a larger staff shake-up in order to turn the page on the turmoil of his administration's first few weeks, which Bannon had encouraged as part of his larger war with the establishment. The New York Times reported Friday night that Trump had ordered the warring factions to settle their differences.

Bannon, who was appointed to the council to guide and watch over then-national security adviser Michael Flynn, remains White House chief strategist.

Tillerson declares the Iran nuclear deal a failure
President Donald Trump. "Everywhere you look, if there's trouble in the region, you find Iran", Mattis told reporters. The administration already implemented new sanctions on Iran in early February for testing a missile.

Jared Kushner, left, and Stephen Bannon, shown December 1, 2016, have not seen eye to eye recently.

According to a White House official, Priebus told the president that Bannon and Kushner had a good talk.

One senior staffer flatly denied a report that Priebus may be ousted potentially for Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., an early Trump supporter.

For Kushner, who has not been to Iraq before, the trip comes at a critical time as Trump examines ways to accelerate a USA -led coalition campaign that US and Iraqi officials say has so far been largely successful in uprooting ISIS militants in Iraq and Syria. Bannon's signature nationalist views have at times clashed with the globalist inclinations of Kushner, who has also previously identified as a Democrat.

The new venture expands on CAA's existing operations in China, which began in 2005. CMC was founded by Li, who formerly served as president of Shanghai Media Group.

The goal, the official said, was to unite the administration so it can focus on the agenda.

"I think stories like that do not help the president", Kellyanne Conway, a high-ranking aide to Trump told Fox News.

Bannon and Kushner sat down to bury the hatchet this week in Mar-a-Lago, Politico reports, but it is unclear what came of the meeting. Trump became unhappy with disagreements among his top aides, the outlet added.
