Russia Blocks Security Council Statement on North Korea

Russian Federation has derailed a proposed UN Security Council statement that would have condemned North Korea's latest missile launch test, using its veto to torpedo the motion. "That's an alliance decision back, I guess, over a year ago now or about a year ago, and we have been sort of continuing apace in that decision", she said.

The vice foreign minister suggested that the US should prepare for an "all-out" war if the USA tries to intervene in the tests.

"My hope is that the wider world and that the leadership in North Korea are listening to what President Trump and the world community are saying".

Experts point out that China also wants to prevent North Korea from becoming a full-fledged nuclear power - and certainly wants to prevent a war on its southern border that could send millions of refugees flooding into China and potentially risk bringing a United States military presence to China's borders. "If the United States of America is planning a military attack against us, we will react with a nuclear pre-emptive strike by our own style and method".

Matthew Stafford would like new contract with Lions
Last week, Lions general manager Bob Quinn said the team is in early stages of talks with the quarterback. As for his future, Stafford said he hasn't anxious too much about his contract talks.

At the outset of their meeting, Pence reiterated to Abe his statement in South Korea that the United States has run out of patience with Pyongyang's moves.

According to Patrick Cronin, senior director of the Asia-Pacific Security Programme at the Centre for a New American Security, the failure to bring down a missile would give North Korea a "psychological advantage".

The vice president said the USA would honor its alliance with Pacific Rim nations and protect freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, the sea lanes vital to global shipping where China has been staking claim to disputed territory.

As fears grow that it may also be preparing for its sixth nuclear weapons test, Vice Foreign Minister Han Song-Ryol said that its program would only escalate.

Pence Issues North Korea Another Strong Warning: 'Sword Stands Ready'
And while the tensions with North Korea have dominated Pence's trip, the objective of it is to promote US trade in the region. He called North Korea the most urgent and risky threat to the peace and security of the Asia-Pacific region.

"The leader of North Korea again recklessly tried to provoke something by launching a missile", he said.

US Ambassador Nikki Haley told United Nations reporters it was "up to North Korea to avoid further trouble". Pence stood a few metres from the military demarcation line outside Freedom House, gazing at the North Korean soldiers across the border, and then peered at a deforested stretch of North Korea from a lookout post in the hillside. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow would not tolerate "missile adventures by Pyongyang" but a unilateral use of power by the U.S. would be "a very risky course".

Also Tuesday, it emerged that a USA strike group was not near the Korean Peninsula as had been previously thought, after President Trump said last week he had sent an "armada" as a warning to Pyongyang. Abe stressed the importance of a peaceful outcome but acknowledged a need to apply pressure so that Pyongyang would become open to dialogue. "But if Trump has entered this so-called era of strategic impatience, just make sure if you do anything on the North, we don't end up as collateral damage". President Donald Trump earlier warned that North Korean President Jong Un has "gotta behave".
