See Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers Remember Don Rickles

Rickles passed away Thursday at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 90. On Twitter, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel said 90 years was not long enough.

"In January 2005, Rickles appeared with Bob Newhart, whom he considered his best friend, on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" the day after Johnny Carson's death to reminisce about their many guest appearances on Carson's show".

'But we lost someone that we and I love very much today, ' he said, only hours after learning of Rickles's death. Although Rickles lived a long life, Kimmel said that he died too young because he was "youthful and amusing and sharp and generous". Rickles was a frequent guest on the show (having visited around 17 more times), and the two would go out to dinner after each appearance.

Meyers honored the comedian with a story he's before: When he introduced himself to Rickles at a party, as a cast member of Saturday Night Live.

Kimmel said the two went to dinner after almost all of Rickles' subsequent 17 appearances, and he shared what Rickles meant to him.

Rickles was awarded an Emmy in 2008 for appearing "Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project", a feature film about his life.

After sharing some classic tales of what Rickles was like when he was around friends-pretty much exactly the same quick-witted wisecracker-Kimmel offered up some notes and messages Rickles had written him over the years.

"Don Rickles passed away this morning. I had like hit and run, and I mean I worshiped the guy, too, because my father worshiped him", he said.

On The Late Show, Stephen Colbert looked back on meeting Rickles backstage at the Emmys: "He hugged me and told me I was good". We became friends over the years and I had the honor of being roasted by him a few times - sometimes when I didn't expect it.

"Dummy", "nincompoop", "schlub", hell, if you were called any of these insults by Don Rickles then you could live the rest of your days a fulfilled individual. "My thoughts are with his family today".
