London [U.K.], April 20 (ANI): The members of the British Parliament have approved Prime Minister Theresa May's plan to hold an early general election on June 8.

"She looked across the despatch box and thought "I can not resist the temptation of taking on Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party - the most ineffective opposition in inter-planetary history".

Labour was not the only party to lose MPs ahead of the election.

When asked in an ITV television interview whether Corbyn was a realistic candidate as prime minister, Labour lawmaker Helen Goodman said: "I don't think that this election is about changing the government".

"Instead (she will) be open to the sort of arrangements with the European Union that hardliners in her Conservative Party have been condemning as a "soft Brexit"," Merritt said in a commentary.

May's Conservatives, who were split on the issue of European Union membership ahead of last year's referendum, are now far ahead of Labour, the main opposition party, according to opinion polls.

Simon Tilford of the Centre for European Reform predicted that, despite the divisive nature of the Brexit referendum, May would win a massive majority of 130-150 seats because of the opposition Labour party's weakness.

"If the United Kingdom, after the election, wants to withdraw (Article 50), then the procedure is very clear", he said. "Because when we win, it's the people, not the powerful, who win". "We will be taking a proud record of a Conservative government, but more than that we will taking our plans for the future of this country".

A large majority for the Tories would strengthen the Government's hand in negotiating a good Brexit deal and provide "strong and stable leadership in the national interest", she said. With Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister we would see higher taxes, higher unemployment and a Brexit that fails to work for everyone.

Corbyn said years of Conservative austerity had led to falling living standards and called May "a prime minister who can't be trusted". I believe in campaigns where politicians actually get out and about and meet with voters. This is the most important message - we want to work together.
