Tony Romo Retires Rather Than Play For Texans

"I'm really excited about the challenge ahead", Romo said in a conference call on Tuesday. He had some interest with the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans, but he felt that having a broadcasting career would be a better decision. Romo says he's committed to broadcasting and is done playing, but many players have said they were done only to get the itch to play again.

This decision also benefited that Dallas Cowboys because they can release and obtain approximately $15 million, which would increase the cap space and leave Jerry Jones with no pressure because he doesn't have to worry about Tony Romo.

According to ESPN, it wasn't an easy decision for Romo.

He will now enter the CBS broadcast booth alongside Jim Nance, taking the place of Phil Simms. There are still three seasons left in the contract of Romo but due to his back injury, he chose to retire.

Romo's future had been one of the biggest talking points of the close season with the 36-year-old reportedly mulling a move after losing his starting role last year to Dak Prescott. The Cowboys reportedly were asking too much - a first-round pick - in return for Romo and teams balked. However, Romo and the Cowboys would get their revenge as their careers progressed.

High praise. But where does this leave the Texans, who now have just two quarterbacks on their roster, Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden? "Somewhere around 2010 or 2011, I decided I might as well just play ball and I'll try and go win it at the end of the game". "It reminds me really of my rookie year". I'm excited. I just don't envision that being something that I'm going to have to think long and hard about. If I'm not very good, I can tell you I won't be sleeping very well.
