Annual Ride of Silence set for Wednesday at City Beach

Cyclists rode in honor of Clinton Slayton, who was injured while riding his bike this month.

Bicyclist will gather in Greenville on Wednesday for to remember fellow cyclists who were killed or injured in crashes and to tour improvements that are making city roads safer.

At 6:30 p.m. they will begin to ride in silence, with police escorts, to the State Capitol and back to campus.

Under the agreement, the USA pledged to cut its greenhouse gas emission by 26 to 28 percent from 2005 levels by 2025. United Nations climate talks began in German city of Bonn on Monday aimed at combating global warming.

The ride itself is a short route, and bicyclists will ride around 10 miles per hour while remaining silent.

Dozens of cyclists are expected to turn out Wednesday and ride to raise awareness of the dangers bicyclists face during the 2017 Ride of Silence.

The event will begin at 6:45 p.m. with the reading of Ride of Silence poem and a list of fallen riders. Helmets are required, and lights are suggested. It is being sponsored, supported, and marshaled by members of the ECVelo cycling club. The ride will be held rain or shine.

The Southwest Riverside County event will start at 7 p.m.in front of Jax Bicycles, 26612 Margarita Road in Murrieta.

Anyone with a bicycle is welcome to ride.
