Former FBI Director James Comey Will Testify In Open Session

Ranking member Sen. Mark Warner (D., Va.) said in his own statement that he expects the former Director's testimony to "shed light on issues critical" to the Committee's ongoing investigation of possible ties between Russian Federation and President Donald Trump's Presidential campaign. The Post didn't name the official.

Former FBI director James Comey believes that President Trump was trying to influence him and the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation, a source familiar with Comey's thinking told CNN on Saturday.

The White House did not deny the Post's report but responded that no collusion happened between Russian Federation and the campaign.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer did not dispute the account.

"I faced great pressure because of Russian Federation", the White House memo quotes Trump as saying.

A Washington Post report, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter, said a senior Trump adviser is now considered a "person of interest" in the law enforcement investigation into whether Trump's campaign associates coordinated with Russian Federation in an effort to sway the 2016 election.

FBI Director James Comey prepares to testify on Capitol Hill on May 3.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump declared himself the victim of the "greatest witch hunt" in American political history and denied allegations of collusion.

Comey was abruptly fired by Trump at a time when he was leading an investigation into whether Trump's election campaign had links with Russian Federation in the USA polls a year ago.

US President Donald Trump told visiting Russian diplomats that firing "nut job" Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey had relieved "great pressure", say US reports.

This file photo taken on November 15, 2016 shows Don McGahn, then general counsel for US President-elect Donald Trump's transition team, in the lobby at Trump Tower in New York City.

The controversy is following Trump on a high-stakes eight odyssey across the Mideast and Europe packed with crucial sit-downs with key allies. In offering the American public a preposterous explanation for Trump's behavior, Spicer was also either lying or recklessly bloviating in an effort to spin the President's shameful actions.

Trump also plans to make an address to the Arab World while in Saudi Arabia and make his debut in global summitry at meetings of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders and leaders of the Group of Seven major industrialised democracies. The president who fired him is trying to put a politician into his shoes.

The White House has struggled to explain the chain of events that led to Mr Comey's firing and exactly who made the decision.
