Patriots achieve two goals with LeGarrette Blount's deal with Eagles

It will not happen, of course, as Blount signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday.

The Patriots combined for 1,872 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in 2016, ranking seventh in the NFL.

Teams likely were hesitant to sign Blount because he would count towards their comp pick formula, but the Eagles weren't likely any getting comp picks anyway, so it didn't matter to them.

However, where Blount will fill a significant void that had been missing from the Eagles' offense last season, is as a short-yardage back.

Moon said the ultimate goal of sanctions was to bring the DPRK to the dialogue table to abolish its nuclear program. Suga only said Abe told Moon that the agreement should be "appropriately managed", but did not elaborate.

The 6-foot-1, 245-pound back is exactly what the Eagles needed, a ideal fit for the missing puzzle piece when assembling a legitimate offense around second-year QB Carson Wentz. He'll join an Eagles backfield of Ryan Mathews, Darren Sproles, Wendall Smallwood and rookie Donnell Pumphrey.

Blount would have given the Cardinals are deadly one-two punch at the goalline and a proven runner behind David Johnson.

Since drafting Wentz No. 2 overall in 2016, the Eagles have tried to strike a balance of building a team that peaks when their young signal-caller does, while still fielding competitive rosters in the meantime.

"Blount, 6'0", 250-pounds, clearly provides the Eagles with a big, early-down veteran running back they desperately needed.

Mathews can not be waived until he is fully healthy. Matthews only ran the ball a team-high 155 times. Blount was the only player in the National Football League to receive the UFA tender this year.

Singing Blount is a great move for the Eagles. His career-best 18 touchdowns for the Super Bowl champion Pats provide evidence of that.

But knowing Roseman, the team won't sit back and observe.
