Pemberton Music Festival cancelled, ticket holders and local firms fear cash gone

Tickets can still be refunded through a third party if it was bought with a credit card.

Documents obtained by Global News show there will be no automatic refunds for tickets as "the festival is now in bankruptcy and has no ability to provide refunds for tickets purchased". There is a kicker for those who were stoked to catch the likes of Chance the Rpper, Muse, A Tribe Called Quest, HAIM, Run the Jewels, Major Lazer, Zeds Dead, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, GRIZ, Diplo, Big Sean, Ween, Nelly, Tegan & Sara, MGMT, Future Islands, Migos, Local Natives, Logic, and many more.

They report the festival reportedly brought in $8.2 million (presumably Canadian dollars) with $22 million in budgeted expenses, but owes creditors $2.5 million USD.

In an interview with Pique on May 1, Huka Entertainment chairman and chief experience officer A.J. Niland spoke of the financial risks associated with the festival.

A bankruptcy trustee is advising anyone with tickets for Pemberton Music Festival to prepare for the worst.

Last year, the festival drew a record 180,000 fans over four days to Pemberton Village, north of Whistler. Instead, they must file a claim through Ernst & Young, which is the festival's trustee in bankruptcy.

Reps for production companies that were hired to handle the technical aspects of the festival believed that organizers were in over the heads with putting together such a large event.

This marks the second time in Pemberton's brief five-year history in which the festival has been canceled.

Meanwhile, the food sub-index increased by 2.04 percent in April, down by 0.17 percent points from 2.21 percent recorded in March. The unemployment rate in the period between January and March unexpectedly fell to its lowest level in almost 42 years at 4.6%.

It also said that the festival is having difficulty sourcing talent because of "a limited number of artists touring in 2017".

Slated to run July 13 to 16, it would have been the fourth year for the Pemberton, B.C., event. If you purchased a ticket with a credit card, you may be able to file a chargeback request by contacting your bank or credit card issuer. It urged customers to seek reimbursement through their credit card providers.
