A man in Texas has filed a lawsuit against a woman he went on a date with because she was texting while they were at the cinema.

Vezmar, 37, has filed a petition in small claims court last Thursday (May 11) to seek compensation for the cost of a movie ticket or US$17.31 (S$24), reports say.

Vezmar said in his petition the woman "activated her phone at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages".

It was reported that, after Vezmar suggested that she step outside to use her phone, Cruz left the cinema and drove home, leaving Vezmar stranded at the cinema theatre.

He described the event as a "first date from hell" and said people texting inappropriately is one of his pet hates. She refused and walked out on him instead.

Still, Lighthizer said reforming the trade agreement fulfilled one of Trump's "key promises to the American people". Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said Wednesday they "made a lot of progress in getting toward the 90-day letter".

"It was kind of a first date from hell", he told the newspaper.

However, his date did not know about the claim until reporters contacted her.

"She was behaving as if it was normal", he told Inside Edition. She said it was more like two or three texts.

"This is insane", she told the newspaper.

The petition goes on to call the texting a "direct violation" of the theater's policy and one that "adversely" impacted viewers' ability watch the film.

Footballers just need reminders sometimes but I explained it to him and it's gone. The Scottish League Cup winners are in the Scottish Cup Final later this month.

He said the damages sought were modest‚ but it was the principle that was important as the woman's behaviour "is a threat to civilized society".

"The date just didn't work out", she told him during the reunion.

"I want you compensate me for the $17 movie ticket and the $4 pizza".

However, he said, "To save the time of the courts, the Alamo is willing help put this to bed and hereby offers Vezmar a gift certificate in the amount of $17.31 for his next cinema outing".
