U.S. senators probe Trump official on special counsel, Federal Bureau of Investigation firing

Former FBI Director Robert Mueller was nominated as special counsel in this investigation.

They included Trump's firing of Comey, reports that Trump had previously pressured Comey to end a probe of former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and Trump discussing sensitive information on Islamic State with Russia's foreign minister.

Trump fired Comey last week, revealing in an interview with NBC that anger about the Russian Federation probe was one reason.

"We'll get rid of the smoke and see where the actual issues lie", said Sen.

Trump strongly disagreed. The appointment, he said in a briefing with news anchors, "hurts our country terribly".

Sheldon Whitehouse: Rod Rosenstein's memo could be part of criminal investigation
Rosenstein has done the right thing", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY said Thursday on the Senate floor. Trump cited displeasure with the FBI's Russian Federation probe as a factor in dismissing Comey.

"I think we'll have a more hard time getting information here for the intelligence committee", Republican Senator Ron Johnson said. He made the same comments to reporters at the White House alongside Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos, again insisting there was no collusion between his campaign and Moscow.

"One of the side benefits of this is that now Congress has been pretty much sidelined, not completely but pretty much, and we can go back to dealing with legislative matters that affect the American people".

President Donald Trump lashed out Thursday at the appointment of a special counsel to investigate allegations his campaign collaborated with Russian Federation as Congress confronted an apparent setback in its own probes: A lawyer for Michael Flynn said the fired national security adviser would not provide documents for an intelligence panel's inquiry. Durbin also said that Rosenstein wouldn't say who asked him to write the memo because Rosenstein didn't want to affect the special counsel investigation.

Rosenstein learned about Trump's plan on May 8, Durbin said. He tweeted: "This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!" But Trump's claim ignored impeachment efforts and blistering verbal attacks on previous presidents and other political leaders.

"With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign and the Obama Administration, there was never a special councel [sic] appointed", he tweeted on Thursday.

Sweden drops Assange investigation, but United Kingdom police say he still faces arrest
The European arrest warrant was issued in 2010 after two women came forward saying they had been sexually assaulted by Assange. However, British police say Assange still faces arrest for jumping bail if he leaves the Ecuadorean embassy in London.

Mr Comey succeeded him, having been appointed by Mr Obama.

"No, not at all", was the answer Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind) gave when asked if the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller was evidence of a witch hunt.

"This was a very good first step".

Constitutional law Professor David Schultz says the Mueller investigation, like other special prosecutor investigations in U.S. History, will likely take months, even years, and will affect the President's ability to push for key agenda items. "Additionally, the ongoing investigations by the both the Senate and House must continue". Chris Swecker is now retired from the FBI, but he says his former boss is the best person to lead this investigation.

We aren't alone. According to an NBC-Wall Street Journal poll released on Sunday, 78 percent of Americans said they preferred a Russian Federation investigation led by an independent prosecutor or independent commission; 15 percent said they preferred an investigation led by Congress.

Top U.S. senator calls for removal of Turkey's U.S. ambassador
The security detail, he continued, violated American laws on United States ground, and that can not happen. Erdogan said he warned Trump that Turkey would combat YPG if the group posed any security threat.
