Wenger agrees two-year contract extension at Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has verbally agreed a new two-year contract to remain at the Emirates Stadium, according to media reports.

"We believe that Arsene Wenger has the support of the Arsenal board and, perhaps significantly, the support of majority shareholder Stan Kroenke". In 2003/04, he became the first manager to lead a side unbeaten through an entire 38-game top-flight season since 1888/89, which heralded the last of his titles.

Whether this news will see Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil stay with Wenger or leave Arsenal remains to be seen, but both star players have contracts running out and will need to be negotiated with sooner rather than later. Arsenal finished in fifth place this season and were 18 points behind champions Chelsea. When Wenger said on Saturday evening that the Arsenal board should watch the cup final back before deciding on his future, it was clear what he meant. The Scotsman stepped down in 2013 after winning 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions League titles. An FA Cup a year later proved to be the last piece of silverware preceding a drought that lasted nine years.

And while this contract was on the table long before Wembley, the FA Cup has helped change the mood among many fans. It was Wenger's sixth winners' medal, and his seventh in 2016-17 made him the most successful manager in the competition's history.

"I get really fed up with these people - Arsenal concede a corner in the first five minutes of a game, and somebody says 'Wenger Out!'", Corbyn told Copa90.
