Almeida wolfed down £7,000 ($9,000) in cash after finding out her husband had been unfaithful to her.

She claimed to have saved up the money to pay for a holiday but was anxious her husband would spend it.

Almeida apparently hid the cash after finding out about her husband's infidelity.

Although the woman did not tell doctors about the money, the notes were soon discovered after they x-rayed her stomach and intestines. She was taken to a hospital a day after swallowing the rolls of $100 because she began having abdominal pains.

Relatives and doctors only discovered she'd eaten them after carrying out tests.

"We took the patient into surgery for two procedures to clear the blockage, on her stomach and intestine", Juan Pablo Serrano, chief surgeon at the hospital said.

Serrano said that the money has been passed on to the police - and a judge will decide how to split it between Almeida and her husband.

The surgeon says, it was not wrapped or packaged, and appeared to be done out of desperation. So, while only $5700 were recovered intact, rest of the money was lost because of the gastric fluids.

Almeida has made a full recovery and was released from the hospital. A team of surgeons was able to retrieve and save $5,700 worth of 100 dollar bills once they were cleaned and dried.
