Army's Redstone Arsenal in Alabama on lockdown for 'possible active shooter'


A Tuesday morning lockdown at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama was lifted after a "possible active shooter" alert, but movements inside the Army military facility are still limited as an investigation into the incident continues.

A possible active shooter has been reported on Redstone Arsenal near the Sparkman Center.

All of Redstone's perimeter gates have been closed, and staff members have been told to shelter in place, Hanson said.

Christopher Colster, a spokesman for Redstone Arsenal in Hunstville, said Tuesday that a training exercise was ongoing that was supposed to end Wednesday. Installation is locked down.

Once again, nothing has been confirmed at this moment, but Redstone Arsenal is on lockdown in a locked, safe location, and we are monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they're available.

The Arsenal received two calls made to 911 about a possible shooter at the Sparkman Center, the headquarters for the Army's Aviation and Missile Command.

The base is home to military units including the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command and elements of the Defense Intelligence Agency and the Missile Defense Agency.

"We did have initial reports of someone hearing shots fired and someone seeing a weapon", Holliday said. "The safety and security of our workforce remains our top priority", Redstone Arsenal posted.

But Huntsville hospital officials said they had not heard of any incoming patients, local TV stations reported.

An active shooter drill was planned for tomorrow, however, officials tell us the current situation is not part of the drill.

Gov. Kay Ivey said there was no shooting and no casualties. "I am praying for a swift resolution to this matter", she said in a statement.
