In North America, the return is closer to 50 percent, begging the question, "Is the worldwide box office enough to ensure a film lands in the black?"
Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales took seventh place this weekend at the domestic box office with $5.2 million and internationally the fifth film added $8.3 million.
Transformers: The Last Knight, the latest installment from the hugely successful franchise, is now showing in theaters and one person who is largely to thank for the franchise's successes is its director Michael Bay.

The most recent "Transformers" film, "The Last Knight", opened on Wednesday to lackluster results. The Last Knight opened to $123.4 million in China, a high for the franchise. The computer-animated comedy film reported an early worldwide total of 141.3 million to date.
The film - the latest revival of the original "Mummy" made in 1932 - cost $125 million to make and has been widely panned by critics.
For comparison, the film garnered $245 million total in the USA, less than the opening weekend gross of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". Made for $149 million, Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Connie Nielsen and Lucy Davis.
Transformers: The Last Knight is now in theaters. Also opening in limited release is Lionsgate's The Big Sick, which opened strong with $435,000 from just five theaters for a $87,000 per-screen average.

Universal's The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, has earned only $68.5 million in the US since its release in early June, compared with $274 million offshore.
Rounding up the top 10, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 made an even $3 million from 1,468 locations over its eighth week in theaters for a new domestic total of $380.2 million. So far it has racked up $18.9 million, including $7.2 million this weekend. Michael Bay mentioned that this would be his last film in the franchise, with Mark Wahlberg echoing that sentiment.
