Dustin Johnson misses cut at US Open — Major Surprise

On one, a par five, he was 85 feet short of the hole on his second shot and got the easy up and down.

But only for a couple minutes.

Walking to the 18th green, Justin Thomas knew he had a chance for history. I wanted to experience our first U.S. Open more than anything here in our state. -Thomas on the meaning of his record-setting 63.

McIlroy and Day needed low rounds to have any chance of advancing to the weekendm and neither was able to produce anything near what was necessary.

But Thomas is no stranger to records.

"I feel pretty confident", Koepka said after his round.

Add Justin Thomas to the list of golf greats below. Vijay Singh was the last player to accomplish the feat in 2003 at Olympia Fields.

"With where I was hitting it", he said with a smile, "I wasn't in the way". Or at your home course.

It didn't work all that well.

Oosthuizen, whose sole major title to date came at St Andrews in 2010, birdied the first, fourth, seventh and eighth to move to four under par, while 2015 victor Spieth had covered his first 11 holes in level par. However, two shots stood above the rest.

"Winning would change my life, I know that, but I've pictured winning the US Open a lot of times before".

Another police shooting acquittal worries black gun owners
Yanez testified that he stopped Castile because he resembled a suspect in a local convenience store robbery days earlier. She says that Castile never made any motions that would have or should have caused the officer to fear for his safety.

Casey is the odd-man out of that group with a 71 on Friday, but the end result still has him in excellent position heading into the weekend.

Casey swung and missed from the tall fescue on No. 3, and then chipped out and it rolled all the way off the green on the other side. On No. 7 he sank a 15-footer.

After Matsuyama and Reavie, the next best round of the day was Bill Haas' 68. "It was a good bogey".

Harman, Fleetwood and Koepka have posted scores of 67-70 in each of the first two rounds. This is only his second U.S. Open, finishing 27th in 2015.

The final pairing of Casey and Harman are scheduled to tee off at 2:29 p.m. (1925 GMT), but a forecast calling for the possibility of thunderstorms could disrupt third-round action. His best finish was fourth in 2014 at Pinehurst.

It's no secret that the U.S. Open is created to separate the men from the boys.

MONEY PUTT: Jason Kokrak made a 16-foot putt on his final hole, No. 9, for a birdie that got him to 1 over - good enough to make the cut. He shot a 69 and was at 2-under 214. He still went out in even-par 36 and was one shot behind Rickie Fowler, who plays in the afternoon.

Day thought his game was perfectly suited for Erin Hills. He just has to listen to the crowd.

But the Englishman now has a share of the lead at the U.S. Open.

It appears that Erin Hills, a first-time venue, has a lower threshold than the normal Open course.

Westwood had bogeyed the third and fifth before a superb tee shot on the 239-yard sixth - which played as the most hard hole on Thursday - set up a birdie from 18 feet.

As good as that round was, Thomas has not run away with the tournament.

OK, this is his first U.S. Open. And on nine he made a 21-foot putt. He shot 68 and was only three back. Champ tees off later Saturday. And why not? So far at this year's U.S. Open, we've seen a blimp crash near Erin Hills, an E-coli scare, and a 94-year-old spectator die at the course. On typical U.S. Open greens, that would have run all the way off the back of the green.

Fleetwood found his way to the top with a rather ordinary four-birdie, two-bogey round. Not everyone can take advantage. Former U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson shot a 71, though he was still seven shots behind.

The world No.13 fired a brilliant nine-under-par 63 in the third round in Wisconsin.

In July, Robert Streb became the 30th golfer to shoot 63 at the majors at the US PGA Championship.

That's what happened as Stricker made it exactly on the cut line.

Jordan Spieth is not among them.

"Showed up for the last six holes, anyway", he said.

For the first time in a major, the top three players in the world all failed to make the cut.

But that's not all that makes the possibilities so limitless Saturday.

The U.S. Open didn't seem to faze him, and he delivered a variety of big shots that led to his sensational finish.
