Two other people wounded were in critical condition at the George Washington University Hospital, a spokeswoman said, but the condition of the two others was not immediately known.
Hodgkinson, a 66-year-old IL man, was the man responsible for the shooting at the Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, that left House Majority whip Steve Scalise and others injured.
James T. Hodgkinson, 66, was fatally shot by police during the attack.
The suspect was taken into custody at the Del Ray-area baseball field after exchanging gunfire with U.S. Capitol Police officers, two of whom were wounded in the incident.
"Duncan says he left the field at 7:02 a.m. and had no idea there had been a shooting".
In a statement, Texas Rep. Roger Williams, one of the team's coaches, said one of his staff members was shot during the incident and is receiving medical attention.

Capitol police officers, who are with Scalise 24 hours a day due to his position as third-ranking Republican in the house, are credited with helping to stop the gunman before he could do any other harm. Authorities refused to confirm that identification at a mid-morning press conference.
"We had three members of Congress took shelter in our apartment and they said (the shooting) was down on the field", Benjamin Childers explained during a live stream shortly after the shooting, adding the three were not injured.
Police initially tweeted that the suspect was among five people transported to the hospital, though Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown later refused to confirm that. He reportedly underwent surgery earlier this morning.
Ron DeSantis said he was walking to vehicle with a colleague and described to Fox News an exchange he had with a man, who was unarmed: "There was a guy that walked up to us that was asking whether it was Republicans or Democrats out there". Two of those officers also were wounded and both were expected to recover. "Rep. Ruben Kihuen, D-Nevada, said in a tweet, "@HouseDemocrats praying for our @HouseGOP @SenateGOP baseball colleagues after hearing about the horrific shooting".

The victims are in stable condition. "The whip was in good spirits and spoke to his wife by phone", the statement read.

Lawmakers were stunned in the aftermath of the event, which raised questions about the security of members of Congress. It did not identify the victim.
