Hunger Strike Officially Suspended After Reaching An Agreement

The hunger strike began on April 17 and involved almost 1,580 prisoners.

"They (Israel authorities) realized that detainees are determined to continue their strike until victory or martyrdom and that violence and oppression tools have not weakened them, but, to the contrary, they have increased their will power".

He claimed that jailed strike organiser Marwan Barghouti cynically exploited his fellow prisoners to boost his standing in Fatah and secure his position as a possible successor to Mr Abbas.

Now, the council has come up with another major decision of allowing students above 25 years of age to apply for NEET 2018 . However, Supreme Court had passed a judgment that students above 25 would be allowed to appear for this examination.

The hunger strikers were demanding appropriate medical care and treatment in Israeli prisons, as well as an end to solitary confinement and the so-called administrative detention, which is a form of imprisonment without trial or charge. The prisoners were fighting for better prison conditions; reinstating a second monthly family visit was one of the concessions the Israel Prison Service offered.

Demonstrations in support of the prisoners had been held across the occupied West Bank leading to repeated bloody clashes with Israeli security forces.

Most of the prisoners' demands have been met by the IPA according the sources but the official declarations will be in the press conference.
