Iran sends five planes of food to Qatar amid Gulf crisis

In a joint press conference with Bahrain's foreign minister, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey would continue efforts to end a regional dispute that has sought to isolate Qatar.

Mr Trump's demand that there be "no more funding" by Qatar for extremist groups contradicted the message delivered on Friday by Mr Tillerson, who urged Qatar's neighbours to ease their blockade while calling for "calm and thoughtful dialogue".

Qatar moved Sunday to avoid an escalation of its feud with Gulf neighbours by telling their citizens they are welcome to stay, while boasting of "business as usual" for vital gas exports.

"So far five planes carrying perishable food items such as fruit and vegetables have been sent to Qatar, each carrying around 90 tonnes of cargo, while another plane will be sent today", Iran Air spokesman Shahrokh Noushabadi told AFP.

It is a crucial hub for USA military operations in the Middle East , especially the battle against the Islamic State group. Also named were Doha-based Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Yusuf al-Qaradawi and Qatari-funded charities.

Saudi Arabia has also closed its land borders with Qatar, geographically isolating the tiny Gulf state.

After severing ties with Qatar on Monday, Saudi Arabia said it was committed to "decisive and swift action to cut off all funding sources for terrorism" in a statement carried by state news agency SPA, attributed to "an official source".
