ME politicians react to USA withdrawal from Paris accord

Responding to President Donald Trump's announcement to withdraw the USA from the Paris climate accord, Guterres said he is "deeply convinced" that states, cities, the business community and civil society will remain engaged, "will bet on the green economy, because the green economy is the good economy, it is the economy of the future".

Trump in 2012 tweeted that climate change was a "hoax" perpetrated by the Chinese to make US manufacturing less competitive, but as with many issues, his views and statements have shifted over time as he became first a candidate, then president.

Brussels and Beijing are reaffirming their commitment to the agreement and laying out steps for achieving some of its goals.

Germany's powerful vehicle industry said Europe would need to reassess its environmental standards to remain competitive after the "regrettable" USA decision. The US only sources about 13 percent of its electricity from renewable energy.

"And we need to think what to do further", he said.

CJ McCollum Thinks Klay Thompson Will Leave The Warriors

The president's ill-conceived decision to leave the Paris Climate Agreement strengthens the resolve of the Partnership for Responsible Growth and others committed to adoption of a carbon fee.

President Vladimir Putin refused to condemn the USA decision at an event in St Petersburg, saying that he would not judge the USA president and questioning whether countries were in a position to halt climate change through the nonbinding agreement.

Trump said he was pulling out of the landmark global agreement to put "America first" as it was too costly, but that he would consider renegotiating what he called a bad deal. That means the USA would remain in the agreement, at least formally, for another three-and-a-half years, ensuring the issue remains alive in the next presidential election.

Its own video uses the same format-background, font, images and music-as the White House version but adds facts to debunk the White House claims.

Under former President Barack Obama, the USA had agreed under the accord to reduce polluting emissions by more than a quarter below 2005 levels by 2025.

Several of Trump's top aides also opposed the action, including his daughter Ivanka Trump. "So, we can't build the plants, but they can, according to this agreement".

"Americans are not walking away from the Paris Climate Agreement".
