Media Reporter For "The Hill" Shames CNN On Tucker Carlson Tonight

Three seasoned journalists at CNN have resigned after the network retracted a story investigating links between a Russian investment fund and an American financier and adviser to President Donald Trump.

The CNN story in question was removed from CNN.com last week and replaced with an editor's note that explained: "On June 22, 2017, CNN.com published a story connecting Anthony Scaramucci with investigations into the Russian Direct Investment Fund".

CNN said the story didn't meet its editorial standards.

Eric Lichtblau, who just joined CNN three months ago as an editor; and Lex Haris, a CNN veteran who has headed CNN Investigates since January, all left the company Monday.

In Tuesday's press briefing, the first on-camera briefing in a week, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders used the lectern at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to attack CNN for purveying fake news and what she called the "Trump-Russia hoax".

Trump took advantage of the resignations in early-morning tweets Tuesday, asking about the news network's other "phony stories".

Joe Concha discussed CNN's reporting on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" after the company had to correct two stories related to the the current investigation into Russian Federation meddling during the presidential campaign. In their statement, CNN had stated that the story that had been published had come from an anonymous source and they do not believe that the reporters falsified the story. He lumped ABC, CBS, NBC, The New York Times and The Washington Post together in the same "fake news" category.

President Trump has repeatedly lashed out with insults to defend himself as the Russian Federation investigation unfolds. "CNN apologises to Mr Scaramucci". The retracted story had said the Senate investigations committee was looking into a January 16 discussion between Scaramucci and Kirill Dmitriev, whose Russian Direct Investment Fund guides investments by US entities in Russia. After one of the subjects of the piece, Trump ally Anthony Scaramucci, threatened a lawsuit, it was retracted and an apology was issued.

Trump gloated over the news of the reporters' resignations, tweeting about it at 6:30 a.m. EDT Tuesday.

He also had an opinion on CNN chief executive Jeff Zucker. "They are all Fake News!"

The producer, identified as John Bonifield, said it appeared CNN had no "smoking gun" evidence of wrongdoing by the president and was giving the story extensive coverage because it was good for the ratings. "Everyone makes mistakes", he wrote.

"CNN just posted it's most-watched second quarter in history".
