Nishikori outdueled Murray in a five-set classic at last year's US Open and looked capable of a repeat success as he rolled through the opening set. His three Grand Slam titles matches Murray's total and at Wimbledon next month he will attempt to become only the ninth man in history to win all four of the sport's major trophies. The third was a bit lucky for me, it helped that I was able to break him in his first service games in the last two sets.
"I think today (Monday) was probably the best I have played overall", said the top seeded Murray.
"I do think sport, and tennis in particular because of the nature of it, is such a global sport, it does bring lots of people together from, you know, many different places", he said.
US Senate OKs expansion of sanctions against Russian Federation
The rare bipartisan move was a blow to the Trump administration, which is looking for room to negotiate with Russian Federation . The new sanctions were proposed as a response to Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election.
"Actually I'm very bad with the memories", Nishikori said.
Djokovic, the defending champion, takes on No. 6 Dominic Thiem of Austria at Court Suzanne Lenglen in a rematch of a 2016 semifinal at Roland Garros that Djokovic won in straight sets. I also think I'm playing better than a year ago.
The Scot will now face the tournament's 2015 victor Wawrinka, who beat Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, in what is a repeat of last year's semi-final showdown which Murray won in four sets before losing to Novak Djokovic in the final.
"But the fact that Thiem took that set and started to be a little bit more [confident] and going a little bit more for his shot, he killed the match".

"Over the last few years Stan has played great in the slams, he's been very consistent".
"Obviously he's played fantastically at this tournament so far".
"I obviously want things to keep getting better, and obviously appreciate everyone still coming out to support the tennis and creating a fantastic atmosphere. (I have) come a long way the last ten days or so".
"How the players are supposed to know that in their head when we're playing at one speed throughout the whole year, and then you show up at the slams, you're expected to speed up by 5 seconds".
