Rubio says best to let Russian Federation probe proceed

He said Trump's statement on Twitter Friday was specifically in response to a story in The Washington Post about the expanding probe into Russia's election meddling.

Trump had tweeted: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

Attorney Jay Sekulow denied that Trump was speaking literally when he seemed to confirm on Twitter that he is now a focus of the special counsel probe into his campaign.

Sekulow said, "The president is not under investigation by the special counsel".

But turnout stood at a record low of around 44 percent, leading opposition leaders to claim he had no groundswell of support. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe acknowledged the low turnout, promising his party would act for France as a whole.

Mueller was immediately confronted with the reality of Trump's Lester Holt interview, his discussion with Russian officials in the White House regarding his relief that the firing of his "crazy" FBI Director Comey would take the pressure off the Russian probe, Comey's testimony about Trump asking for his "loyalty" pledge, and what Comey perceived as the President's directive (the President used the word "hope") to terminate the Michael Flynn investigation.

Schiff said Trump, his legal team and his supporters were trying to discredit the special counsel and his investigation.

"You might have been very critical of me if I, as an active part of [Trump's 2016] campaign, was seeking intelligence relating to something that might be relevant" to the Russian invesigations, he told committee member Sen.

Gingrich: Time to rethink special counsel Mueller
Trump has suggested there might be tapes of his encounters with Comey; Comey said last week that "lordy" he hopes there are. If Sessions did recuse himself, it would fall to Rosenstein to fire the guy who he'd appointed weeks earlier.
