Bette Midler praised the Broadway community after she won the Best Actress in a Musical Tony Award Sunday night for her performance in the revival of Hello, Dolly!

"Dear Evan Hansen", starring 23-year-old Ben Platt in a breakout - and knockout - performance, took six awards Sunday evening at Radio City Music Hall, including best musical and best actor for Platt.

United Kingdom star Cynthia Erivo, who won the Tony for best performance by a lead actress previous year, returned to present an award alongside John Legend.

"Oslo", written by J.T. Oslow about the Oslo Accords between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization, took home best play as well as a statue for best supporting actor for Michael Aronov.

Laurie Metcalf, who has previously been the sole nominee from her production three times at the Tonys, won Best Actress (Play) this year for "A Doll's House, Part 2".

"Midler beat out Patti LuPone ("War Paint"), Christine Ebersole ("War Paint"), Denée Benton ("Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812") and Eva Noblezada (Miss Saigon").

Evan Hansen, the story of a high schooler wracked by confusion and loneliness, won as best new musical.

James Earl Jones received a Tony Award for lifetime achievement, though strangely it was presented in a pre-show ceremony rather than on the telecast itself.

Morgan shot 77 and, remarkably, still had the lead at 4-under 212. "That fifth shot on the 18th was the best shot all day". The tournament was never really in doubt after that, though the wind arrived and Kaymer couldn't maintain the pace.

When the orchestra began to play her off as she spoke on stage she told them: "Shut that crap off".

It takes real bravado to even attempt to shoo off Bette Midler when she's winning her first competitive Tony.

Midler then went on to thank her many female role models before expressing gratitude for a whole host of others.

Best Play was won by Oslo, while a Tony went to August Wilson's Jitney for Best Revival of a Play. She had been expected to win, and she started off amusingly by thanking the Tony voters, "many of whom I've actually dated". Not only was it extremely longer than most award show speeches, but she also said some of the most hilarious one-liners while accepting her first-ever Tony win for acting.

But to really show everyone what an incredible opening looks like, I'll give you my favorite one.
