Rosenstein said the attorney general would be the only one who could fire Mueller.

The Newsmax head also slammed the White House communications team's response to his statement, calling it "amateur hour".

"Under the regulation, special counsel Mueller may be fired only for good cause and I'm required to put that cause in writing".

But during an afternoon hearing, Sessions suggested to the Senate Intelligence Committee that Mueller could be trusted to carry out a fair investigation.

"No, I have not", he said.

White House says no determination yet on 'Dreamer' immigrants
In an Associated Press interview in April, Trump said his administration is "not after the Dreamers, we are after the criminals". White House officials then told the New York Times on Friday that Trump has yet to make a long-term decision regarding DACA.

Sources have told CNN that multiple advisers have counseled Trump against firing Mueller. According to current regulations under which Mueller was hired, only the attorney general can fire a special counsel.

Rosenstein says it would be inappropriate for him to discuss Sessions' recusal and adds, "we don't talk about the subject matter of investigations while they are ongoing".

In the interview with PBS, Ruddy called out what he described as "conflicts" surrounding Mueller's law firm, WilmerHale, which has represented Trump's former campaign manager and members of the Trump family.

If Mueller knew he was going to be named special counsel, it is unlikely he divulged that information to Trump.

"I think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel", Christopher Ruddy said during an appearance on PBS' "NewsHour".

"Let me give you a little bit of insight from inside the West Wing right now", Ryan said.

Multiple House Republicans said that there was no discussion about the special counsel at the weekly GOP meeting. Look who he is hiring.check fec reports. But his refusal to answer a question about who directed him to write the infamous memo suggests he might also be a witness to a crime being investigated by the special counsel.
