The Trump administration has ordered an end to the DAPA program, or Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents, which would have provided legal protection to undocumented parents living in the US with citizen or resident children. The program will stay intact - for now - but DAPA, or the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents, is off the table.
For now the "Dreamers" program - officially, the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) - will remain in place. "Their announcement to keep DACA, while revoking DAPA and deporting family members is deceitful and is another effort to keep immigrant families feeling uncomfortable about their place in America", said Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham, chairwoman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
White House officials then told the New York Times on Friday that Trump has yet to make a long-term decision regarding DACA. Kelly made the announcement of the revocation of the memo in a statement Thursday, which said the Obama memo was revoked because "there is no credible path forward to litigate the now enjoined policy".
DAPA would have allowed parents of undocumented children to stay, but never took effect since it has been hung up in legal battles since being penned back in 2014.

"But my future is still in their hands and undecided", she said.
Stein issued a similar statement on DACA, saying the program was just as legally questionable and hurtful to Americans as DAPA. "DACA that applies to students has not been changed", Kelly said.
DACA was meant to be a stopgap measure to protect young immigrants while Congress worked on a broader immigration overhaul.
"There are a lot of community members that are immigrants here that are on the program".
Donald Trump blasts obstruction of justice probe reports as 'phony'
Nor did he deny that he has entered the miniscule ranks of sitting presidents who have become subjects of criminal investigations. Rosenstein could eventually be questioned by Mueller about his memo on Comey and what motivated Trump to ask him to write it.
Advocates especially criticized DHS for the timing of the decision, which came on the fifth anniversary of DACA and the anniversary of a Supreme Court ruling that guaranteed public education for children regardless of their immigration status. "We will continue to fight to protect all immigrants and call on policymakers to step up and enact policies to ensure that we are safe and can thrive". Trump had pledged on the campaign trail to rescind all of Obama's executive orders on immigration, including DACA.
"Many working class Americans voted for President Trump because of his promise to combat illegal immigration and secure U.S.jobs for American workers".
Arrests of immigrants in the interior of the country have increased under the Trump administration, but deportations are slightly down as fewer people have been caught crossing the Mexican border into the United States illegally. In an Associated Press interview in April, Trump said his administration is "not after the Dreamers, we are after the criminals". A federal judge in Texas put a halt to the program in February 2015.
"We will immediately terminate President Obama's two illegal executive amnesties in which he defied federal law and the Constitution to give amnesty to approximately 5 million illegal immigrants", the President said in a major immigration speech on August 31, 2016.
