Actor Dileep denied bail, Kerala court extends custody

The Angamaly (Kochi) judicial magistrate court on Saturday turned down Malayalam superstar Dileep's bail plea and remanded him in judicial custody till July 25. Dileep was arrested on July 10 and remanded to 14-days of judicial custody.

The prosecution has said that there are enough proofs to support the charges against the actor. But police took two-day custody which was again extended by two days on Friday. Meanwhile, police also carried out a raid at the residence of Dileep in Aluva to seize the phone. The court considered the contentions of the police and extended the police custody of Dileep by a day. The defence lawyer argued that the police were seeking extension of custody to find an approver, as they failed to find any evidence against the actor.

The police have said they arrested Dileep based on 19 pieces of evidence that they have gathered in connection with the abduction of the young actress on February 17 when she was travelling from Thrissur to Kochi by road. Dileep is accused of hiring goons on "quotation" basis to assault the actress over alleged personal rivalry. The investigation team submitted the case diary in a sealed cover. Police made the submission while opposing the bail application of Dileep. A leading actress was abducted by a gang in a pre-planned strike on the night of February 17 when she was heading for Kochi from Thrissur in a vehicle.
