Israel denied it but sources speculated that the return of the embassy guard and the ambassador was a part of a deal between King Abdullah of Jordan and PM Netanyahu, which included the removal of all metal detectors and "smart cameras" from the Temple Mount.
Jordan initially said the guard could only leave after an investigation, while Israel said he enjoyed diplomatic immunity.
