Almost four years after she was put under house arrest, Uzbekistan authorities explained on Friday for the first time what the daughter of late President Islam Karimov has been convicted of and announced additional charges.
Russian journalist and Central Asia expert Arkady Dubnov told Echo of Moscow radio on Friday that the public announcement after years of secrecy surrounding Karimova was due to "the necessity for the new Uzbek authorities to show results in the investigation ahead of the first anniversary of Islam Karimov's death".

Swiss prosecutors have been investigating Karimova, 45, on suspicion of money laundering since late 2013.
It said the restriction of liberty order was imposed when she was found guilty in one case.
"Karimova Gulnara has been charged under articles 168, 178, 182, 189, 228 and 243 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a preventive measure in the form of arrest was taken against her", the statement said.
