Multiple reports said Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price will be placed on the disabled list due to flaring elbow issues. It's unclear who will start in his place, although as Chris Mason of the Eagle Tribune points out on Twitter, Brian Johnson is now on regular rest in Triple-A.

Price, 31, underwent an MRI on his pitching elbow Thursday, a source told ESPN's Buster Olney.

Price's tumultuous season began with the starter on the DL with a sore forearm and strained elbow, though he avoided needing Tommy John surgery.

But Price has also been at the center of a controversy lately after confronting broadcaster Dennis Eckersley last month on a flight to Toronto, several weeks after an angry confrontation with media members in the clubhouse. In his last start, though, Price allowed six runs (five earned runs) on seven hits and three walks in five innings.
