Shikhar Dhawan Replaces Injured Murali Vijay for Sri Lanka Tests

The left-handed batsman, who last played a Test in October against New Zealand, was the highest run-scorer in the 50-over Champions Trophy in England and Wales in June. Murali Vijay has not played for the Indian national team since sustaining a wrist injury after the Australia test series during the home season a year ago, which India won by 2-1.

The right-handed batsman, 33, underwent surgery on his wrist in England following the four-test series against Australia and missed the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League twenty20 tournament.

BCCI's All-India Senior Selection Committee made an announcement on Monday, stating that Vijay injured himself during a practice match.

The right-hander has been asked to continue with his rehabilitation program after complaining of wrist pain during a match.

He was out of action for nearly three-and-a-half months and had missed the entire IPL season with the Dharamsala Test against Australia in March being his last competitive match.
