Riders can now tip Uber drivers from within the company's ride sharing app, in a shift for a company that had long sought to distance itself from tipping culture.

The days of not feeling obligated to tip your Uber driver have come to an end in CT.

On Tuesday, Uber is matching every tip for drivers in CT.

The company will match all tips given to drivers on July 18.

By the end of this month, Uber drivers in every United States and Canadian city will be able to accept tips, the company said.

Tipping remains optional, but there are a few rules.

The company is celebrating the rollout by matching all tips given out tomorrow (hint, hint).

Riders will have the option to tip directly in the app after each trip. "It starts with tipping, which is now available in the Uber Driver app".

Lyft has long had a tipping option in its app. Drivers won't know if a rider tipped them or not when they go to rate the person.

Tips are voluntary and do not affect the driver or passenger ratings.
