SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF


At 10:58 am ET (1458 GMT), the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 89.92 points, or 0.41%, at 21,981.04 and the S&P 500 was up 5.6 points, or 0.22%, at 2,475.90.

The Nasdaq composite index was up 12.54 points to 6,387.22. The S&P 500 rose 0.25 percent, with utilities and financials leading advancers.

Economic data was more supportive, with the ISM's factory sector purchasing managers' index for July printing at 56.3 for July, which was down from a reading of 57.8 for June but higher than a consensus forecast for 56.2. Mobileye makes software that processes information from cameras and other auto sensors to decide where an autonomous vehicle should steer, and Intel agreed to buy it for $15 billion in March.

Snap fell 3% to $13.39 as a lock-up ended that has prevented early investors and employees from selling shares since the company's IPO.

Campus carry expands to community colleges
That means those with concealed carry permits can bring their firearms on campus but there are still some restrictions in place. Exactly one year ago today, the Harlingen school implemented Campus Carry allowing concealed handguns on campus.

USA equities notched record highs last week, but some analysts said the tech sector might continue to face pressure from profit-taking following upbeat earnings.

Shares in telecoms giant Sprint and Royal Caribbean Cruises were also boosted by their latest quarterly updates, finished 11.15% and 3.36% respectively.

The S&P financial index .SPSY led with a gain of 0.81 percent. The Baltimore company said it will eliminate 280 jobs and is aiming to reduce $110 million to $130 million in annual spending through a restructuring plan.

Crude oil was over 1 percent higher with prices at $50 per barrel. Shares of Scripps were about 1 percent higher with Discovery tumbling 8 percent.

European markets closed higher: London's FTSE rose 0.7 per cent, Paris added 0.7 per cent and Frankfurt lifted 1.1 per cent. Brent crude, the global standard, dropped 94 cents, or 1.8 percent, to $51.78 a barrel in London.

In government bonds, yields on 10-year Treasurys were little changed at 2.295% from 2.292% on Monday, while German 10-year yields fell to 0.519% from 0.545% previously.

Gold added $6 to $1,279.40 an ounce.

The dollar rose to 110.30 yen from 110.24 yen. Most notably, Chinese equities got a lift from better-than-expected manufacturing data in the region, helping the Shanghai Composite and Hang Seng to respective gains of 0.6% and 0.8%.
